I was absolutely thrilled to learn, about a month ago, that THE FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHER (or THE PARIS ORPHAN as it’s known in North America) had been shortlisted for the RNA’s Goldsboro Books Historical Novel Award for 2020. I was even more thrilled – and incredibly surprised – to discover that I’d won the award!
I was on a shortlist with writers like Jojo Moyes, so to think that I won is somewhat unbelievable. There’s also the fact that I live in Perth, Australia, and these awards are for books published in the UK, so it’s wonderful to know that readers on the other side of the world have enjoyed THE FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHER.
My lovely publisher Lucy represented me at the awards ceremony in London and accepted the award on my behalf as it was a little too far to travel for just one night. The award is now winging its way over to me in Australia and I can’t wait to hold it in my hands. What a way to start the year!
